Mechina

Ner Yisroel’s entry-level division provides its 240 talmidim with a well balanced educational program.

There are three shiurim in ninth and tenth grade and two in eleventh and twelfth, ensuring the sizes of the shiurim remain small. The dedication of the Rebbeim extends beyond delivering shiurim, to forging intimate K’shorim with each talmid. Living on campus, they are readily available and host their talmidim for an Oneg Shabbos almost every Friday night.

Alongside the Iyun, which is the main emphasis of the learning in the Mechina, each shiur completes a second “Bekiyus” Mesechta every year. Additionally, many bochurim learn additional Perakim within the Iyun Mesechta outside of their regular sedorim, culminating in a grand Siyum at the end of the year.

A rigorous, comprehensive limudei chol program offers requisite courses alongside advanced tracks such as AP Precalculus and AP Statistics, and engaging electives in subjects like public speaking, Jewish history, economics, robotics, and computer programming.

Questions?

No, we feel the well-being of the out-of-town bochurim is better served by staying in the Mechina for that Shabbos.

We pride ourselves on our very strong Secular Program, which rates as one of the best among Yeshiva high schools. Besides the required credits, we offer a variety of electives that capture the imagination of the boys and also give them real life skills, such as Public Speaking, Business Ethics, Practical Finance, to name a few.

We do not allow smartphones under any circumstances. We do, however, have a special plan that allows the bochurim to have preapproved basic phones. Details of this plan are provided to the bochurim when they enroll in the Mechina.

Yes, we expect our talmidim to dress as Bnei Torah. A full description of our dress code can be found in the Rules & Regulations which is mailed annually to all bochurim.

We are fortunate to be located on the 90-acre Beren campus in suburban Baltimore County with our Rabbeim living on campus. There are basketball courts, baseball fields, football fields and ample areas for exercise and walking. The fields and courts have lights for night-time activity, as well. In addition, there is a 24-hour coin-operated laundry room, a canteen which is open during break times, and an ATM on campus.

Yes, during the day. However, there is a ground curfew after 7:30 PM.

It’s true that we are a large high school, but the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades have shiurim of approximately 22 bochurim, enabling the Rebbe to connect to all of his talmidim. On top of that, every Friday night the Rebbe has his bochurim over for an Oneg. The Menahel and Mashgiach also know and connect to each bochur.

Aside from Succos, Pesach and summer vacation, we have a weekend off approximately every 4-5 weeks. In between each off-Shabbos, 9th and 10th grade local bochurim are allowed to spend a Shabbos with their immediate family.

If a boy is unwell, a senior staff member will check on him.  Moreover, there is a physician residing on campus with office hours every evening, and there are three registered nurses living on campus. When necessary, a local pharmacy will deliver prescriptions to a staff member.

Please be aware that it is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that their insurance will cover care in Maryland.
